To fresh graduate developers

In these days, our company keep hiring the people but we cannot get the people what we want. In Yangon, we have big issues of Human resources in every sectors. For us, juniors are come and apply the positions. But they don’t have working experience and we cannot hire them to teach. We are startup company and cannot give much time to the juniors.

Working Experience

Working experience doesn’t mean you need to work in some companies. Experience can get from your own projects. No need to be big. At least you can make unsplah android app, movie db android app, etc.

If you are junior and you will show some open source apps that uploaded on github, we don’t need you to ask so much. We will read all your codes, run your projects before interview.

You should start doing sample projects at university. So, you can get the job easily after finish university. I am sure, you don’t need to find the jobs and job will find you.

If you cannot make some projects, try to learn it and make it. You can learn from others source code. I learn PHP and learn a lot for glite project. I did mmglite based on glite open source project. I read most of that code and try to understand. Learn it from open source projects that can help you a lot your coding scale.

We open source some projects in github. You can contribute it. In our open source , we cannot give so much time on that. So, their was a lot of things need to improve.

Don’t work for money

I saw some people want high salary but don’t have good experience. The problem is they join high pay salary and work around 6 months or 1 years. After that jump to other company for high salary. For the junior, 1 years experience doesn’t count so much if you cannot show much your skill or code. Our company don’t like people who only work there at 6 months or 1 years and join to our company except the company was close down.

If you were working in high pay salary company, you cannot get job salary like that in other companies in Yangon. If you want to learn, don’t care salary when you are young.

When you are young, experience is more important than salary. First company is important for you, too. If you are working in corporate, you will be part of the machine. You will only know what you need to do. That is good for people who already have experience but not good for junior. You cannot learn much in there. I saw some junior who only do the same things over 1 year. If you do like that, you may have 2 years experience but you cannot compare same experience person who work at start up.

Be Strong

Working environment is not like school. We are not calling you as friend. We will call you as colleague. If you did wrong, we will complain. If you cannot meet the dead line , we will give you the warning. If you skill is not enough, we will give task to learn with timeline. If you cannot do in that timeline, we cannot work together in future. Yes, that is work environment and you need to work as professional. There will be stress and you need to be strong. If you cannot strong, very hard to be good programmer in future. Working environment is not place for gossip, finding friends. Need to work like professional and trying to solve the issues. Need to be strong and need to accept your weakness. Need to be train yourself become stronger. You can get experience from your own projects but you cannot strong quickly when you work alone. There will be pressure, stress but this is the start of life. It will be harder in the future that you need to accept.

Responsibility

In the future, you will be family man/woman. You need to take responsibility for your family. Taking responsibility is not easy. You must have experience, problem solving skills, community skills, etc. These things can learn at working environments with step by step.
